Still holding his gun up, Joe rests his free hand on Nicky's shoulder for a while, giving it a gentle squeeze. This is not the time for a hug and yet he wants to provide physical comfort for Nicky. He's here, the touch says. By Nicky's side, just like he's always been.

They make it onto the roof, Joe shining a light at the darkest corners, his eyebrows furrowed. Then he hears her voice, immediately recognizable even after centuries. He looks up and sees the shape of her, a dark outline against a backdrop of pollution-heavy sky.

"Always," he replies, his voice tight and rough with emotion, cracked open by the magnitude of seeing her again.
